The Sixth Annual Crafting Community at the Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs, May 1 -3

The Sixth Annual Crafting Community celebrating creativity, imagination, and the importance of family will return to the Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs, May 1- 3. Crafting Community encourages a connected experience between children, parents and families as they spend quality time together, make unique things and simply enjoy each other's company in a relaxing location.

Crafting Community merges brands, big and small to collaborate and exchange ideas organically.  In addition to the many artisans, companies such as SoulCycle, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, Undefeated, Whole Foods, Linus and Ergo/Orbit Baby will also join Crafting Community, bringing their stories, products and brands to life.

Creative director and artist Karen Kimmel, along with some of the foremost design talents of the day, will lead Crafting Community families through a series of workshops including:

• Brooklyn design darlings, Gabriel Cohen and Jolie Signorile of Fredericks & Mae, will teach families how to make their signature painted arrows

• Whitney Chamberlin, SmileBooth and Field Trip founder, will give parents and kids the basics in Photo 101

• Christine Schmidt of Yellow Owl Workshop will lend her sophisticated yet playful aesthetic to a carve your own stamp workshop

• Janelle Pietrzak, of All Roads, will help families create inspired woven wall hangings

• Los Angeles based designer Cathy Callahan will lead a colorful tassel jewelry and garlands workshop

Tanya Aguiñiga, the dynamic LA-based furniture designer/maker, will lead a still TBD workshop guided by her whimsical approach to art

Bari Ziperstein, a site-specific sculptor, public artist and designer will teach families to make jewelry from handmade clay beads

After creating uncommon and wonderful things, families will be given a number of chances to get outside, connect with nature and play including Underwater Photography, hip-hop classes, one-on-one skateboarding sessions with a pro-skater and a dawn ride with Angela Davis, one of SoulCycle’s most popular instructors, watching the sun rise over the desert landscape.

Crafting Community is about families spending quality time together, so relaxation is taken just as seriously as the weekend’s inspiring workshops with activities like family game night and enjoying s’mores under a blanket of desert stars. After the drive in movie, the fun will keep going at the Desert Disco, a late night dance party.

The lessons of cooperation and community that develop speak to the core of the Crafting Community mission, lessons they hope continue beyond the weekend.
